Beach Camping in Okinawa: The Keramas

Image
8/12/17-8/14/17 So I had the opportunity for a nice little staycation and I won't lie, I was shitting my pants a little thinking about it because camping really isn't my jam! When I think of camping I think of a 3 star hotel type setting! But, since it's basically paradise, and camping on the beach, I figured I would give this a go. I'm so glad that I did, it was an amazing opportunity! I'm so glad that I did! The snorkeling was beyond any words that I can put onto paper! Ok so the not so glamorous part of it: the bugs and the heat. I won't spend too much time on that because there is SO much positive to touch on that it truly outweighed these two things, yes even for me, the person who hates being too hot and doesn't like bugs! I will never ever be able to properly describe the snorkeling. "Amazing" is doing it a disservice. When you have the ability to snorkel with sea turtles every single day, multiple times a day, you truly have to...

My daith piercing experience (pain, after care, recommendations)

Image
4/17/16 So a few days ago I got my daith pierced (4/13 actually). I had done a bit of research on it. Honestly just trying to figure out if this was going to be a breeze or the mother bitch of all piercings. I have several piercings but since my mom reads my blog I won't to into all those details here (you're welcome mom!). From what I read it sounded like it would be a breeze, similar to nose, which honestly I didn't feel until they put the jewelry in. Lies. Complete bullshit in fact. I will say that with a caveat, I think it completely depends on your anatomy, which in turn impacts how slowly or quickly the piercer can ram that piercing rod through there. I was a lucky little winner of the bad anatomy game apparently because as soon as I sat down and he started drawing he said "I'm going to have to go slow and you can't move" to which my response was "sweet Jesus please go as fast as possible". He did not. But I also understand that he need...

Typhoon Chan-hom...oh the things you google (and purchase!)

7/10/15 Yes I suppose today is a 2-fer day... Months without posting, heck almost a year, and now today you get 2! Typhoon Chan-Hom started yesterday, the forecasts were meager indicating that it wouldn't be a direct hit and I think no one really took it seriously. It was one of the stronger ones I've been through, imagine the impact if it was a direct hit! Here's a photo that was taken on the island, after we had gone into Recovery mode Now, I had gotten a meal or two yesterday but I didn't "stock up" by any sense of the matter. This wasn't going to hit us directly, and from the sounds of the forecast it was all going to occur overnight, so I thought. I actually thought that I'd be able to get up and go for a run this morning. Ha! I woke up to something very different! First of all, this bitch has had me up since 2am...howling winds. Ever wonder how much Netflix you can watch? Ever had to convince Netflix that you were there and to "con...

Unlocking your iPhone (AT&T iPhone 4s in my case)

12/9/12 I'm shocked that it has taken me this long. Embarrassed even. But here it goes. I've been meaning to investigate the process of unlocking my US iphone for some time now and just haven't gotten to it. Until today. The purpose (for me) would be to have the ability to use it overseas when I travel for more than just a wifi device. So, if you are an AT&T customer and interested in the process here you go. It's simple and takes minutes: First you need to fill out a simple form on AT&T's website. You need basic account information and the IMEI number (this can be found by going to Settings then General then About) Form to request your iphone be unlocked Now you just patiently await AT&T to get back to you. They indicate they will get back to you within 7 business days And here is the link to check the status of your unlock request: Check your unlock request Best of luck saavy travelers! 12/15/12 *Update* Just received the email toda...
